Retrofit of 1920 former council house, to fit with other houses on the estate. Having lived there for 40 years a lot needed upgrading, and was in a fortunate position to afford to do renovation all at once. Tried to incorporate as much energy saving and renewables as possible, no fracking gas. Had attended a number of Carbon Co-op trainings, visits and meetings, so was aware of most of the issues involved. Future proofed so could live downstairs and share accommodation. Retained some original features.

Background and motivations
What motivated you to make these measures?
Home needed upgrading after 40 years, and wanted to be as "green" as possible. Had attended a number of Carbon Co-op visits and training workshops. Have taken risks being an early adopter, but important to do this.
Why did you choose these particular measures?
Wanted to get a much done as possible, as i was fortunate to have the money (legacy).
What did the work entail for you? Did you do works yourself or hire someone else? How did you find and choose a builder/supplier?
I hired an architect recommended by Carbon Co-op, they oversaw the tendering process with builders they had worked with in the past. I had asked Carbon co-op members for recommendations at the time, but no builders were available.
What difference has these measures made in your home (e.g., reduced energy use, saved money on bills, more comfortable)? If you track any changes quantitatively, how do you do this?
Reduced energy use. Home warmer and healthier - humidity and ventilation control.
What key dos and don'ts would you pass on to someone considering these works?
Whole house approach for your anticipated future lifestyle, start with fabric.
Find an advisor you trust.
Do lots of research and visits.
