Takes place at Hulme Community Garden Centre's Straw Bale Class
Hulme Community Garden Centre's classroom was a year long project which involved many beneficiaries, carrying hundreds of straw bales, shaping and re-tying the bales using a 'miller's knot', shaping the house with the bales, planting the garden roof, rendering the walls with a mix of lime and hemp and cladding the outside with red cedar wood.
It started life with the generosity of Ian Grindley Associates, who helped design something simple yet with the possibilities to changing its uses, such as classroom, workshop venue, meeting room, offices and once a year at our Summer Party transforming it into 'The Gardener's Arms'. The project was led by Ian Wiggelin from Outer Space Landscape and Jonny Mount, who had previously built the garden centre's roof garden.
